People and Property In Photos

People in Stock Photos

No Release Required

Model Releases Secured
In order for a photograph to be used commercially, the photographer needs to have secured a model release from any identifiable people in the image. For this reason you will see many photos on this site with people who are unidentifiable; such as silhouettes, or people who's faces can't be seen because they are looking away. We also have a growing collection of images for which we have hired models and have secured model releases. If you can clearly see the subject's face, we likely have a model release for them. To be sure, please look for the notification of "Model Release" on the image detail page.

Editorial use of stock photos does not require model releases. Editorial stock photos are used as illustrations in books, magazines, informational periodicals and electronic media, educational materials, etc.

Property in Stock Photos

No Release Required
The reason for requiring a model release is to protect non-models privacy and shield them from any potential defamation of character that could occur from the use of the image. Privacy and defamation cannot apply to objects. Things — cars, buildings, statuary, costumes, animals, etc. — don’t have legal rights. It is our policy not to single out any one piece of property that could be associated with an individual. For that reason, our photographs that contain a home, building or business will also have other homes, buildings or businesses in it so as not to make any implications or associations with any one particular property.

DISCLAIMER: THIS IS NOT LEGAL ADVICE. PLEASE USE IMAGES AT YOUR OWN DISCRETION. NW Stock Photos does not make any representations or warranties with respect to the use of names, logos, trademarks, logos, uniforms, works of art, or registered or copyrighted designs depicted in any image.
